Materials:   Walnut

End grain walnut vase.
10 oz,  opening is 1-1/4" diameter, wall thickness 1/4" on average.
My design inspiration comes from arts & crafts potters, Van Briggle in particular.  My goal is to add design to traditional vase forms such that the viewer will be drawn in to a greater appreciation of the grain in the wood.  I hope that the design enhances the wood and seems to have emerged out of it, rather than be something imposed upon it which ignores its nature.

Judges Comments
Clay : You have a strong sensitivity to the material, but the straightness of the sides of the vessel contradicts the lyrical carving.
Jacques : love the subtle surface design... would like to see more volume in the form and only 2/3 in height. Nice use of textur which compiments the material.
John : I like the idea of being subtle in the carving, but it looks like the wood grain overpowers the carving in some places. You've got to find a balance. Stay with it.
