Dimensions (inches):
  Width:   4
  Height:   5
  Depth:   4
Materials:   Body or vessel itself is rowan as well as lower leaf. Rest of the lid and the finial are brown mallee.

This lidded vessel, "Long lost Flower", is probably quite easy to understand. Explaining it deeply would mean pretty long discussion and too deep dive to my mind which would not be that nice trip. Short and easy explanation is that this is my ode to women, beauty, birth and rebirth. This is pretty symbolic and I have tried capture something rustic, earthy and organic and same time something beautiful.

Flower/finial/lid closeups. All parts of the lid and finial are turned, carved, dyed, hardened/reinforced with CA glue and sprayed with acrylic spray. When all parts were ready lid and finial was glued together.

I wanted to make flower and "new and growing" leaves as shiny and wet looking as possible to separate them from bottom part. Also I think they look more "living" this way.

This is inside view of the vessel. I wanted to make it look like flower. First painted with yellow acrylics, added orange "structure" paint and color washed with red and black. Black dots middle are black structural/relief paint.

Bottom of the vessel. Vessel was dyed after turning. "Dots" forming dead leaves was burned. Light coat of spray acrylics and burned dots was "filled" with liming wax. Again coat of acrylic spray and "rust" parts was carved and "root" pattern formed with black structural/relief paint. Coat of acrylic spray followed with "Instant Rust".

Judges Comments
Clay : Some well done components. The 2d representational style of the leaves on the vessel is very different from the realistic 3d portrayal of the flower.
Jacques : In many cases with textured surfaces, less is more. Only one color on the whole surface may help this issue..... good form.....I think the flower ornament [which is neat by itself] becomes a distraction to the form though.
John : There are interesting ideas and parts, but it's very busy. Try to simplify your ideas a bit-stay with it.
