Materials:   maple,scotch pine,ebony. ebony dust in 2 part table top finish
maple turned to appx 3/16 thickness. groove 7/8 wide,3/32 deep cut 5/8 down from 7/8 opening.
 
12 sections 3/32 thick were cut from dead scotch pine branch in my yard and glued to the vessel in the groove.a two part material used for table top finishes mixed with ebony dust was used to fill in the spaces. this material,not being very viscous required several applications to create a level surface. vessel was then finish turned to appx 1/8 thickness,sanded to 600 grit, finish is spray on deft,buffed with beall system.
ebony collar was turned separately on a small screw chuck and fitted to vessel.

Judges Comments
Clay : A good start on a fun concept. Some variety in the size and placement of the limb sections might give it more visual interest.
Jacques : form shows good volume... more end grain sections to add more patterning could work well.
John : Looks like a nice little piece. The surface over the limb inlays looks sort of rippled. Could be the photos, but the impression is the same.
